Pieces
Every Piece Has Its Own Rules
Anarchy Chess rebuilds the idea of chess pieces from the ground up. Some pieces move like classic units, some fly over the board, and others attack without moving at all.
Mechanics
Move, Capture, Shoot
In classic chess, pieces usually capture by moving onto an enemy square. In Anarchy Chess, that is not always true. Some pieces shoot from range, some attacks are delayed, and airborne units can jump over other pieces.
Movement
Some pieces move and capture by stepping onto a target square — like classic chess.
Ranged attacks
Pieces like the Sniper or Artillery can attack without moving. They stay in place and target from range.
Delayed damage
Some attacks land later. Artillery shells take one round game tick before they deal damage.
Visual Legend
How to read the diagrams
Each piece card includes a board diagram. Colored squares show what the piece can do from its current position.
Move
A square where the piece can move without capturing.
Capture
A square where the piece can capture an enemy piece.
Move + Capture
A square where the piece can either move or capture.
Shoot
A ranged target. The piece does not move to the targeted square.
Airborne Units Can Jump
The Jet and Helicopter are airborne pieces. They can jump over other pieces, similar to the Knight in classic chess. This makes them powerful for fast repositioning and surprise attacks.
Some Pieces Attack Without Moving
The Sniper and Artillery can attack from range. They do not need to move onto the target square to kill an enemy piece. This creates a major difference between movement and attack decisions.
Delayed Damage
Artillery Shells Take Time
Artillery attacks do not deal damage immediately. A fired artillery shell takes one round game tick before it lands. This gives the opponent time to react, but it also allows the Artillery player to force movement, break formations, and control important areas.
1 tick
Delay before artillery shells land

More Pieces Are Coming
The current pieces are only the beginning. Anarchy Chess is built so new movement rules, attack types, and special mechanics can be added over time. The community helps decide which pieces should join the board next.
